Florence + the Machine were performing at the Hollywood Bowl on October 7/8 in Los Angeles, California. As The Maccabees and The Weekend are the current two opening bands of FATM, Flo joined surprisingly The Maccabees on stage to perform their last song. There’s also an article of the performance from October 7 written by NME that can be found below and more of it after the cut as well as the “Dog Days Are Over” & “Toothpaste Kisses” performance!

WWW.NME.COM – Florence And The Machine headlined the Hollywood Bowl on October 7 in Los Angeles, as frontwoman Florence Welch encouraged the 18,000 capacity crowd to start ‘snogging’ each other.

Before playing ‘Spectrum’, the London-based singer said to the audience: “Now, we are from England, and us Brits aren’t usually known for our displays of public affection. We’re normally quite reserved.” She then asked everybody to turn to their neighbours in the crowd and “make out, which in England, we call snogging.” She added: “You don’t have to be shy, LA.”

Taking to the stage at 8.45pm (PT) after support slots from The Maccabees and The Weeknd, Welch opened up her 15-song set at the iconic venue with ‘Only If For A Night’ from her second album ‘Ceremonials’, which was released last year.

In front of an Art Deco themed backdrop, and sporting a black gown with a sheer skirt with hip-length slits, and a see-through bodice section, Welch went on to play ‘Cosmic Love’ from her debut album ‘Lungs’, during which she gestured to the crowd in the mostly seated venue to stand up. Before her next song, ‘Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)’, she said: “I know one thing about the Bowl is that it is seating, but for this song I need you to stand up… I think we can subvert the venue… We want to see people on shoulders. We want you to raise them up.”

Energetically dashing barefoot across the stage, she thanked the crowd for their warm reception, saying “LA, you’re amazing” before later exclaiming in wonder about the size of the venue and the glowing crucifix on nearby land which can be seen from the stalls: “This place is enormous. I went up to the top and you can see the sign and you can see a big fucking cross.” She then went on to get the crowd to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to guitar player Robert Ackroyd, who earlier this year reportedly had a fling with Katy Perry.

In August, Welch revealed that she has begun thinking about her next record, claiming she has “written a whole album in my head”. She hinted that she would be taking a year off from music as she wanted to take a hiatus before she started work on ‘Ceremonials’, but later admitted that she hadn’t stopped plotting ideas for the next time she enters the studio.

‘Only If For A Night’
